“Measured Eden” was painted as part of the “Summer of Sculpture” residency collection. The painting echo’s the glass facades that define the South Bank’s urban skyline. The composition juxtaposes organic abundance; dense foliage and dramatic cumulus clouds rendered in warm yellows and deep blues; against rigid cartographic geometry. This visual dialogue reflects the tension between natural forces and human systems of organization, influenced by the area’s layered architectural history from medieval foundations to the crystalline structures of modern towers like the Shard. The translucent grid captures the landscape, creating a meditation on how we frame, measure, and possess both urban and natural environments through systematic division. The painting explores the paradox of experiencing freedom within the systems designed to contain it, and how life frames even our dreams of escape through systematic division.
