Painted during my residency at Bankside Hotel, “Rifts” emerged from a dialogue with Natanya Barrett’s exploration of Rorschach imagery and her transformation of the body into hybrid forms that challenge perception and empower identity. Drawing additional inspiration from Lorna Simpson’s “Head on Ice,”. I transformed the clinical symmetry of Rorschach testing into crystalline forms that both reveal and protect the central figure.
