“Moments Apart” was painted as part of the “Summer of Sculpture” residency collection, exploring the theme “Form and Flow”. The painting responds to Johannes Nielsen’s sculpture “Same Body Different Day 35,” translating the sculpture’s segmented bronze form into a fragmented portrait composition. The grid structure reflects both the modular construction of Nielsen’s sculptural figure and the geometry of the South Bank’s towering architecture. Walking through this landscape of glass and steel, one encounters multiple fractured reflections—glimpses of self, caught in building facades, each surface offering a different moment, a different angle of perception. The work continues my ongoing exploration into the human form’s intersection with architectural space. Through fragmentation and reconstruction, the segmented portrait format creates visual tension between wholeness and division, mirroring the sculptures multiple perspectives and modular assembly.
