About

Georgi Morrison is an artist based in South London. Born in Bristol, she relocated to the capital to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. Her academic and career path led her away from art initially, but during the COVID-19 lockdowns she received an oil painting set as a gift ignited an interest in exploring the medium.

Georgi draws inspiration from Surrealists, particularly Rene Magritte, whose visual metaphors and paradoxical compositions have greatly influenced her own creative approach. Another major source of inspiration is Lina Iris Viktor, a British Liberian who explores themes of “Blackness” and mythic history. She is also drawn to the poetic and evocative imagery of photographers like Viviane Sassen and Dana Scruggs. Sassen for her explorations of identity, vulnerability, and the human experience in relation to our environment. As well as Scruggs’ visually arresting and intimate portraits, inspiring Georgi to delve deeper into the emotional narratives of her subjects. In her own paintings, Georgi seeks to explore her own experiences, create harmonious spaces that merge contrasting elements, develop surrealist narratives, and paint intimate and solitary portraits, of figures caught in moments of introspection or transition.
