Painted during my residency at Bankside Hotel, “Between Forms” emerged from my engagement with Natanya Barrett’s creation of new mythological narratives and her fascination with Rorschach inkblot imagery. Using acrylic ink to create organic marbled patterns, I found a direct parallel between Barrett’s use of inkblot psychology and my medium choice, where the fluid properties of ink become both artistic tool and conceptual bridge to her work. I also found parallels between Barrett’s practice of cutting away sections of the body to create hybrid forms and the voids that puncture my figure, where negative spaces dissolve into the flowing background and solid boundaries disappear. Working within her framework of empowerment through reimagined mythology, the scattered hands evoke ancestral presence and protective spirits found in folklore Barrett seeks to reclaim.
