The oil painting titled “Spill” presents a composition that juxtaposes human presence against an abstract environmental disaster. The work features a silhouetted figure, seated in contemplative observation before an encroaching orange-red spill that dominates the upper left portion of the canvas. With this painting I developed a method I call “oil pouring”, I experimented with oil paints and oil mediums to create a semi-translucent pourable oil paint formula to allow colors to flow over the surface of the canvas and interact with each other organically to represent the ecological disaster.
